An army and water

Between a rock and a hard place, it’s a common phrase describing being in a tough spot. I would imagine it’s fair to say that as the nation of Israel stood between an army and water on the banks of the Red Sea that they felt they were between a rock and a hard place. Today’s verse of the day may be the first instance of the phrase, “Stay calm and carry on”.

This verse flies in the face of the notion that the Lord helps those who help themselves. A phrase often uttered but one that is not scriptural at all. Could the blind beggar help himself to regain his sight? Could the woman with the issue of blood heal herself? What about the lame or the sick or the dead? No.

Time and again it was faith that made them whole. Faith and the miraculous work of God. That is all we are called to do. Have faith and know that God does the fighting for us.

So, if I may be so bold as to coin my own phrase. “Stay calm and be Christ-like.”

Exodus 14:14
